| Name: | Lilah Morgan |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 05-03 |
Character Name: Lilah Morgan
Series: 'Angel'/'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'
Age: Appears to be in her early thirties.
From When?: After her last appearance.
Inmate/Warden: Warden. Had absolutely no qualms about indulging in evil acts, during life, but was always a survivalist, at heart. She devoted her professional life to darkness, but was compelled to serve her employers, even after death. The promise of being let out of that contract now has her putting that knowledge to a better use, albeit one from a different perspective than most in this position.
Item: Filofax.
Abilities/Powers: A great sense of style, extensive knowledge of the occult and aptitude for legal affairs.
Personality:
"Green is my favourite colour, I look good in diamonds and I love riding in limousines."
Beautiful, ambitious and ruthless Lilah's mortal career as an attorney for the law firm, Wolfram and Hart, would have seen the end of lesser colleagues. Indeed, it often did. Lilah, however often remained cool and relaxed in the face of the very forces of darkness she had literally signed her soul away to. While it is true that the impending threat of death, whilst in competition against Lindsey for the role of President of Special Projects, did serve to make her paranoid, it was with good reason. Once assured of the promotion, Lilah instantly reverted back to form, even making sure to keep tabs on most of her nearest competitors, until enough evidence was gathered to have them executed.
"I heard Henderson actually pulled her first-born out of company day-care to offer it up... Brown-noser. My mother was right... I should have had children."
Lilah has demonstrated as much of a talent for dark humour, as back-stabbing. Career-minded to a fault, Lilah was a true corporate shark in a company nobody ever truly left the services of. Having set her sights on a necessary goal, she will pursue it, by hook or by crook, although her methods can sometimes be tinged by a lack of contingencies.
"Remember when Robert Price let the Senior Partners down and they made him eat his own liver? I don't know what made me think of that."
Her seeming lack of morality is either due to self-repression or sadism. This is perhaps best demonstrated by her plan to befriend a telekinetic teenager and arrange for the girl to be raped, so as to force her abilities to the surface. Although Lilah maintained that there was never any question of the tactic succeeding, her apparent casual willingness to engage in such a strategy was startling. Then again, considering her work environment, perhaps this should not come as a surprise.
It should also be kept in mind that events implied Lilah's apparently forgetful mother suffered from Alzheimer's. Later remarks inferring that her high salary guarantees her mother can have "the best room at the clinic." Although not clarified, this could well be at least partial motivation for Lilah not only joining Wolfram and Hart, but wanting to rise to the top of her career ladder.
History:
Lilah Morgan's official Wolfram and Hart employee record once revealed the following:
Junior Associate: 1994.
Senior Associate: 1997.
Junior Partner: 2000
Graduate of Mortonson University School of Law, 1994, with high honours.
Law Review, 1992-1994.
Recruited by Los Angeles office, supervised by Holland Manners.
Up to that point, Lilah was the Co-Vice-President for Special Projects, but was later promoted to become President for the same.
Wolfram and Hart, itself, is an official 'representative' of evil, primarily in the shape of a global law firm, although seemingly having controlling interests in a great many fields, including construction and entertainment. Behind the scenes, use of the occult is extensive, with vampires and other demonic entities being its foremost concern, along with powerful and frequently guilty human beings.
In her first appearance, Lilah attempted to persuade the ensouled vampire, Angel, to work for her employers. With this meeting no success, Lilah then proceeded on an avenue of learning how to kill him. She was also the co-architect of a plan to hire renegade Slayer, Faith, in order to do just that. Over time, Lilah and another lawyer, Lindsey McDonald, competed against one another for the favour of their superiors. They were, however, warned against angel's destruction, wanting him, instead, corrupted.
Needless to say, this made both the lawyers' tasks a lot more difficult.
With the death of her supervisor, Holland Manners, his successor, Nathan Reed, decided to pair the two as Co-Vice-Presidents of the Special Projects Division. The logic being that their rivalry would eventually produce a natural winner. The resulting power struggle reached a veritable fever pitch, as both were well aware the loser would be killed. Lindsey, for his part, was strangely tranquil, leaving Lilah to get increasingly suspicious and paranoid, attempting virtually every trick she can think of, in order to guarantee success. Her efforts came to nought, but all was not lost: Offered the promotion, Lindsey elected, instead, to leave the firm, disillusioned by the extent of its darkness. Lilah thereby winning the position by default.
With immediate worries about her own mortality no longer factoring into things, Lilah's vendetta against Angel increased, blackmailing him into freeing a mysterious young man from a hellish dimension, by torturing one of his closest associates, Cordelia Chase. It turned out, though, that the liberated creature was a half-demon misogynist, gifted with the ability to bring out primordial violence in males, simply by touching them. This came back to haunt Lilah, being severely beaten by Gavin Park, her most recent rival. Hiding away in her apartment, preventing the detection of her injuries, Lilah's ruthlessness resurfaced in a refusal to assist Angel's attempts to send the creature back to hell, stating, "I am not Lindsey McDonald. I don't switch whenever it gets tough." Nevertheless, it was ultimately Lilah who struck the killing blow and regained her own sense of self-worth in the process. It is then that she receives a new superior, Linwood Murrow.
After various other confrontations, Lilah's involvement with Angel Investigations intensified with a series of one-night stands with Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, in a prolonged effort to corrupt him, although this does not meet with success.
The virtual destruction of Wolfram and Hart's Los Angeles branch results in the death of all employees, save for Lilah, who escapes with Wesley's assistance. A little before this, Lilah kills Linwood during a board meeting, assuming his position.
Later in hiding from Angel's more fully evil self, Angelus, Lilah comes to grief, not by his hand, but that of the possessed Cordelia, who seeks to leave the lawyer's corpse for Angelus to drink from. Wesley beheads her corpse, not willing to take the chance of Lilah arising as a vampire. Here, Wesley receives a haunting vision of Lilah, lamenting to her of being unable to save the lawyer from herself. Lilah suggests that she loved him, but Wesley refuses to believe it, swinging the decapitating blow, she is gone. Quite whether this was genuine or the product of a grief-induced hallucination, has never been made clear.
Lilah is, however, later shown to still be contracted by Wolfram and Hart, even after mortal death. It is she who presents Angel with the offer to run Wolfram and Hart and, during this time, Wesley tries to burn Lilah's contract, so as to give her peace. this proves impossible, although she appears touched by the act. With the offer taken up by Angel, Lilah seemingly returns to a hellish division of Wolfram and Hart. Her role is effectively taken over by Eve, who becomes a liaison for the Senior Partners.
